Event: ACE EXPO Victoria 2015

Organisers of ACE EXPO Victoria 2015 say that every piece of machinery that digs, dumps, moves or lifts will be on display at the show, to be held from 12-14 November at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

The biennial expo, which will feature on-site demonstrations and one-off deals, is once again supported by the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF).

“CCF Victoria sees the ACE EXPO as one of the most effective and direct ways to get out among the people in our industry, hear the needs of contractors and look at what we can do to support them,” CCF Victoria CEO John Stewart says.

The expo is run and part-owned by Exhibitions and Trade Fairs (ETF) in conjunction with the Construction and Mining Equipment Industry Group (CMEIG).

“Among our 100-plus exhibitors, we welcome Komatsu, Onetrak, Kubota Tractors, Indeco, Hitachi, Wacker Neuson and a host of others from varying construction-industry sectors, including civil contracting and engineering, earthmoving, training and beyond,” says ETF portfolio director Luke Kasprzak.

He says activities on the three days include a CMEIG networking function on Friday 13 and children’s and spouse activities on Saturday 14. Free information sessions on the latest news and industry trends will be held at the seminar stage on the first two days, giving attendees the opportunity to learn where Victoria’s civil contracting and construction industry is heading.

A new Safety Zone will showcase advancements in work-safety products and services, injury prevention and risk management.

Athena bi-levelling tracked scissor lift

Among the products to be shown at ACE EXPO will be the ASPAC Group’s Athena bi-levelling tracked scissor lift

ASPAC’s Martin Eade says the Athena’s Australian launch will show its ability to self-level on slopes up to 20 degrees on both the X and Y axes, being front to back and side to side, giving it great application in the outdoor equipment, construction, landscaping and rental industries.

“This is a feature never before seen in a scissor lift, and means no bulky outriggers and no packing of wheels,” Eade says.

Traditional slab scissors can only be used on flat, level, hard surfaces, he says, which makes them virtually useless to anyone in outdoor construction or maintenance. However, rough terrain units are large and heavy, have to be transported via truck, and cannot be used in backyards due to their size.

“The Athena, by contrast, can go anywhere, on virtually any surface, and, with its massive 20-degree auto-levelling function, can be used on virtually every job, every day,” Eade says.

Named after the Goddess of Wisdom, the Athena is available in two sizes: the 630 has a 6.35m working height, while the 850 has an 8m working height; both models can be driven close to full height. They come standard with a Honda petrol engine and 240V functionality; an on-board generator enables power tools to be used, even when the 240V power function is not being used.

Eade says other important features are the Athena’s tracks, which virtually eliminate the risk of getting bogged, its compact size — at 1,200mm wide it’s compact enough to easily get down the side of a house — and its light 1,700kg weight, which makes it easy to transport.

Mustang R Series skid steer loader

Tutt Bryant Equipment says it will showcase the new Mustang R series, Bomag tampers, Yanmar Dash 6 range and Kawasaki Z7 range at ACE EXPO Victoria 2015.

Tutt Bryant Victorian sales manager Ken Watson says Mustang has redesigned its full-sized radial-lift, skid-steer loader line, and the machines feature a new operator’s station with integrated digital display, improved 360-degree visibility, pressurised cab option, improved Yanmar engines, an enhanced hydraulic system and maximum torque ratings.

The “state-of-the-art” operator compartment has new, side-folding restraint bar and multiple-adjustment armrests, fully adjustable control towers and a mechanical or air-ride suspension seat. Watson says the cab-forward design and lowered rear towers give unmatched visibility to the bucket edge and rear of the machine.

Other features of the new R Series skid steer loaders are manual Quick-a-Tach or hydraulic Power-a-Tach attachment systems, HydraGlide ride control and the Hydraloc safety system. There are also pressure-relieving hydraulic couplers, thumb-controlled proportionate auxiliary hydraulics and an augmented hydraulic flow.
