The Finnish common-rail 14-cylinder beast is the world’s most powerful reciprocating engine, developing a maximum continuous power output of 107,400 horsepower (80,000kW) at 102 rpm.

Just as impressive is its size — 13.5 metres high, 26.6 metres long and weighing over 2,300 tonnes. The cylinder bore is 96cm and it has a 250cm piston stroke.

As you’d expect, a diesel engine of this size needs a supersized vessel. It’s used in container ships transporting in the region of 16,000 boxes, such as the 11,000-TEU Emma Maersk.

Awesome!
