VIC supplier receive first Bell E Series dump truck

Australia’s first Bell E Series Articulated dump truck (ADT)– the B30E has been delivered to Victorian-based construction materials supplier EB Mawson & Sons.

The Bell E Series dump truck range was released by Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) in September last year and consists of two models – the B25E and B30E.

HCA ADT National Product Manager Jim Gardner says the new B30E is a true showcase of Bell’s evolutionary approach to design.

“Demand for trucks that are more fuel efficient, yet haul higher payloads, continue to drive product advancement in the ADT markets,” he says.

The Bell B30E ADT has been commissioned at the Lake Boga quarry, situated four hours north of Melbourne. Mawsons acquired the Lake Boga quarry in 1958 and has a number of investments in quarries and concrete parts across regional Victoria and Southern New South Wales.

“Safety is always a priority for quarry operators and the new B30E is no exception,” Gardner says.

“Incorporating hill start assist and vertical tip angle safety monitoring, the new trucks are also equipped with on-board load weighing and keyless start as standard, to name a few.”

EB Mawson & Son Lake Boga Quarry Manager Darren Colville says the company was attracted to the Bell truck brand’s series of safety features.

“Safety is our number one priority,” he says.

“The Bell truck delivers above and beyond when it comes to safety features, with everything from reverse camera and mirror package for on-board inclinometer and weighing system.”

Colville adds the business was particularly impressed with the on-board weighing system.

“The three accelerometers and external load lights improve load accuracy and prevent overloading,” he adds.

“This helps us maximise productivity and reduce our maintenance costs such as tyre and driveline wear.”

Operator comfort and manoeuvrability also contributed to EB Mawson & Sons’ decision to purchase the new ADT.

“At Lake Boga, we prefer to operate articulated trucks due to bench width requirements. These trucks allow us to extract more from the quarry,” Colville says.

“Bell’s new design makes it easy for our operators when manoeuvring in and out of the pit. They enjoy the comfortable cabin and smooth ride.”
