To celebrate 15 years in Australia, Cougar Skid Steer Loaders has added an 11th model to its lineup — the vertical-lift VL Series Cougar 1220J — to partner its new 950 and 1040 VL Series skid steers.
Bruce Ford, General Manager of Cougar sole distributor Skid Steers Australia, based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, says the new skid-steer loader is a true vertical lift machine — the lift path follows a vertical line as opposed to the S-shaped path offered by other vertical lift models.
The 1220J has a rated operating capacity of 1220kg and a true vertical lift height of 3047mm to the bucket hinge pin.
“The Cougar 1220J offers maximum capacity and has the industry’s largest breakout force in its class which, if paired with its lift height, enters it into the high end of the skid loader market where product options are minimal,” Bruce says.
The machine comes with a 63kW turbo Cummins diesel engine, 75 litres-per-minute standard-flow aux hydraulics, 120 lpm high-flow hydraulics, standard level ROPS/FOPS cab-forward design and two-speed travel that gets it moving along from 11 km/h to18 km/h.
Bruce says that operating one of these machines has never been easier.
“The J series comes with joystick servo pilot controls,” he says. “One lever operates your steering and speed and the other control operates all the boom and bucket functions. The aux button is nicely placed on the hand operating control for ease and comfort.
“There are no computers on any Cougar skid steers — other machines have computers and electrics, and dirt, dust and water cause trouble,” Bruce says, adding: “Coming standard with a 4-in-1 bucket, this is a seriously tough skid-steer loader.”
Bruce says that, since the brand’s establishment in 1990, it has been developing and producing Cougar skid steer loaders for agriculture, construction, civil works, landscaping, waste management, general hire and other uses.
