Cat upgrades 777G Water Solutions truck

Cat’s new 777G Water Solutions truck has innovations to save both water and fuel

The Water Delivery System on Cat’s 777G Water Solutions truck helps prevent overwatering

Mining and quarry operations can now be better equipped to take on haul road dust with Cat’s new 777G Water Solutions truck – an innovative solution which requires less water to suppress dust on site.

The 777G water solutions truck is built upon the existing truck with the same name, but has integrated a 76,0000L water tank and the Cat Water Delivery System – WDS – to help manage operations more safely and more productively.

The WDS uses a variable displacement pump to deliver water at variable speeds, based on the truck’s speed – helping conserve water while enhancing visibility.

The result of the variable displacement pump means overwatering is prevented while poor traction at road intersections – or other areas where the vehicle may be idling – are risks which have also been minimised.

When combined with Cat MineStar Edge connectivity, the WDS helps operators solve issues such as overwatering and underwatering at mines and quarries with scalable levels of technology to fit respective site needs.

A complete spray system, splash guards, full chute and rock ejectors are also included.

Saving water and fuel has also been made more manageable by Cat, with the adaptive economy mode operation capable of using 13 per cent less fuel than when in full power mode. Fuel consumption is further reduced by up to 50 per cent with the water cannon, which operates at engine idle speed.

Other improvements mean the operator can stay in the truck cab during tank refill

The technology also features soft start-ups and turns off automatically when the tank is empty, preventing damage to the system from the pump running dry.

Components of the WDS include a water cannon, oil cooler, hydraulic oil tank, electric control boxes and hydraulic motor/water pump in addition to the variable displacement pump.

Productivity has been improved on the 777G, with the operator able to stay inside the cab during tank refill, which comes in the form of a remote control and includes automatic shut-off to prevent overspilling.

Cat’s MineStar Edge collects machine data and stores it straight to the cloud where operators can monitor each machine and data across the fleet.

The system provides a range of data including real-time and historical reporting, truck location, fuel and water levels, volume of water distributed, area covered, and rate of water being put down.

All components of the 777G water solutions truck have been designed by Cat and are therefore covered by standard warranties. The water tank and WDS are retrofittable on existing 777G truck platforms.
