Ron Horner took this used Cat 740 articulated all-terrain dump truck up to our testing ground near Boonah in Queensland recently and put it through its paces hauling earth and rock against one of the best backdrops you’ll ever see.
“She runs a massive 927-cubic-inch, 6-cylinder turbocharged donk under here,” Ron says above the roar.
“She’s got seven forward and two reverse gears,” he says, adding that this big rig can run at 55km/h on the flat.
The 32.8-tonner has a loading capacity of 38 tonnes, Ron says, and you can chuck a 23-cubic-metre payload in it.
