Queensland’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund aims to fast track the development of essential infrastructure, including roads, water and sewerage
Civil Contractors Federation Queensland has welcomed the Queensland government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund aimed at unlocking housing enabling infrastructure.
The first round of applications will open in April, to fast track the development of essential infrastructure including roads, water, and sewerage and break down the barriers to building more homes.
CCF QLD has long advocated for increased funding to housing enabling infrastructure as a key element in addressing the current housing crisis in the state.

CCF QLD CEO Damian Long says you cannot spend a dollar on housing until you spend a dollar on housing enabling civil infrastructure.
“Without the civil construction industry, the foundations for communities could not be built. Yet the industry is often overlooked in discussions about Queensland’s housing supply,” Long says.
“Lacking the roads, drainage, sewers and water reticulation and associated treatment plants, earthworks, foundations, bridges, tunnels, and rail the standard of community we expect would not exist. Without our members, this infrastructure simply doesn’t get built.”
Long adds the lack of investment in infrastructure is a major reason housing supply is at decade lows.
“The last kilometre of housing enabling civil infrastructure is a major cost, it causes disputes blocking activation of land and infill development,” he says.
“This $2 billion dollar fund will be very helpful in addressing this challenge.
“We’re excited to see applications opening in April and that the funding will be available as early as July. This is a very welcome initiative not just for civil contractors, but also for Queensland’s long- term growth.”
