Boost Productivity with an Excavator Onboard Weighing System

Loadrite have announced that they will release an onboard excavator weighing system called the Loadrite X2650 at the Asia Pacific International Mining Exhibition (AIMEX) in Sydney, Australia on August 20.

Loadrite promise that the X2650 will prevent over and under loading of trucks, and therefore increasing productivity and save money.

Loadrite Product Manager Gordon Hain says that “until now, most mining operations have relied on payload systems on haul trucks to measure payload weight. But on haul trucks the data is not provided until after the bucket has been dumped into the truck and accurate data is only available after the truck has left the load out location.”

A successful trial of the system was carried out in a NSW mine, of which some data has been made available. According to the graphs, the amount of deviation in the percentage of target payload was significantly reduced, meaning that the average truck was weighed at much closer to the ideal target payload after the system was fitted on to the excavators.

“When you consider the  ownership and operating cost of the fleet over the course of a year, each time a large haul truck needs to return to the face, plus the associated lost time, and machinery stress, the savings can add up to hundreds of thousands by getting loads right the first time,” Hain says.

Another advantage of the Loadrite system that they claim is that accuracy is assured to be within plus or minus three per cent, as opposed to payload information from haul trucks, which Hain says is “generally only accurate to within five per cent.”

Hain adds he is expecting a fast adoption of the X2650 across the industry.

“Globally we’ve installed several hundred similar payload measurement systems on construction size excavators up to 125 tonnes,” he says.

“Given the link between productivity and profitability in the mining industry, we’re expecting to see strong growth of the X2650 system in the next 12 months.”
