The 110-hectare operation employs approximately 14 people and will supply Boral’s integrated downstream concrete and asphalt operations for over 20 years
Boral has announced the recent acquisition of Culcairn Quarry in southern NSW, located 50 kilometres north of the NSW/Victorian border city of Albury-Wodonga.
The 110-hectare operation has high-quality rock resources that will secure the supply of Boral’s integrated downstream concrete and asphalt operations for more than 20 years.
Further growth is predicted in the Albury-Wodonga and Wagga Wagga regions, including large renewable energy projects requiring significant volumes of quarry materials.
Boral previously operated the quarry under a lease agreement for more than 25 years.
The company says this strategic acquisition will enable it to build its long-term position in the region and continue to support its customers.
“Boral is committed to strengthen our positioning in both upstream and downstream assets to better support our customers as part of our Good to Great strategy,” says Vik Bansal, CEO of Boral.
“We have operated the quarry for over 25 years under a lease arrangement, so when the opportunity arose to acquire the quarry land, it made sense.
“Albury-Wodonga has a healthy pipeline of projects, and is naturally, a key region for Boral,” he adds.
“This acquisition enables us to extend our high-quality reserves and continue supporting the community and supplying local infrastructure projects.”
Boral also recently announced that it is developing a lower carbon concrete product using Australian calcined clay, in partnership with industry bodies and researchers. Read more about that here.
