The Look Up and Live app has earned recognition through state and national awards for its contributions to safety
Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) has announced the addition of the Look Up and Live tool to its range of services available to protect people and utilities when working near, above and below ground utility infrastructure.
The Look Up and Live tool was launched in 2017 by Ergon Energy Network and Energex to promote safe work practices near Queensland’s electricity network.
The app has since expanded its reach, covering overhead networks in New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, and has earned recognition through state and national awards for its contributions to safety.
More than 135 people have died after coming into contact with overhead power lines in Australia in the last 20 years.
BYDA says the Look Up and Live app helps prevent such tragedies by providing real-time access to powerline locations via an interactive map – all at no cost.
The organisation is working closely with Ergon Energy Network and Energex to achieve their shared goal of zero damage, zero harm and zero disruption.
“As part of our unwavering commitment to safety, BYDA is dedicated to making it as straightforward and practical as possible to work safely near utilities,” says Mell Greenall, BYDA CEO.
“By integrating Look Up and Live with Before You Dig, we are simplifying the process of accessing utility plans and essential safety information, empowering workers to operate safely around utility infrastructure.”
Combined with BYDA’s underground plan service, the addition of Look Up and Live offers a comprehensive and user-friendly safety tool for anyone working near critical utility infrastructure, according to the organisation.
BYDA plans to further enhance the app by including all above-ground utility networks, resulting in what it describes as an even more valuable resource for safety.
