Cash incentives for workers willing to relocate to WA

The Western Australian government has introduced measures to boost its building and construction workforce, including cash incentives for those willing to relocate west

The Western Australian (WA) government has announced that it will be offering one-off payments of $10,000 to building and construction professionals and tradespeople that are willing to move to the west.

From January 2025, the $10,000 Build a Life in WA initiative will help those who make the move with relocation costs – adding to the number of measures in place to bolster WA’s building and construction workforce.

‘Suitably qualified construction workers’ from all Australian states and territories will be eligible for the Build a Life in WA incentive.

“We’re providing a range of incentives for building and construction employers and employees so we can get more boots on the ground and get homes built sooner,” WA training and workforce development minister Simone McGurk says.

“WA has jobs available immediately for those working in the building and construction industry, especially in residential construction.

“With a new year on the horizon, it’s an ideal time for interstate construction workers thinking of making a lifestyle change, to turn those plans into a reality.”

In further measures to increase the local workforce, the state government is adding an additional 175 places to its Group Training Organisation Wage Subsidy Program.

$21.6 million has been invested into the program to create more opportunities for Western Australians to complete a building and construction apprenticeship, and earn while they learn on the job.

To date, the state government has invested $109.4 million in total into the program, subsidising 775 places for construction apprentices and trainees.

A new online WA Jobs and Workforce Hub has also been launched to further support workforce expansion and potential job seekers. It will provide helpful resources that are all in one place for local, interstate and global job seekers looking for new opportunities, or to relocate to WA.
