Cat intros CW16 pneumatic roller

Cat intros the new CW16 pneumatic roller for use on mid-sized asphalt jobs.

Cat -CW16-pneumatic -roller

Designed for use on granular materials and all types of asphalt-mix designs, the new CatCW16 pneumatic (rubber-tyre) roller is available as a standard nine-wheel model with a 1754 mm compaction width or as an optional 11-wheel model with a 2132 mm compaction width.

The CW16 is designed for efficient performance on highways, city streets, county roads, lane additions, industrial sites, overlays, or other mid-size jobs.

As well as differing wheel configurations, the CW16 is available with either the Tier 3 Cat C3.4B ACERT engine or the Tier 4 compliant Cat C4.4 diesel.

Depending on the type of ballast used (water, sand, steel or combinations) the operating weight of the CW16 varies from the 5.2-tonne base setup to an approximate maximum weight of 15 tonnes for the nine-wheel configuration and 14.9 tonnes for the 11-wheel configuration.

The CW16 has oscillating front wheels to assist in compacting soft voids across the entire width of the machine. A 32mm tyre overlap ensures even compaction across the surface. Individual wheels are fitted with self-adjusting scrapers and a water-spray system deters material from adhering to the wheel’s surface.

This system includes a single water pump, triple filtration, and adjustable intermittent operation. Triple filtration in conjunction with the design of the water pump and spray nozzles, provides protection against clogs. The adjustable intermittent-spray mode conserves water and reduces the number of refills required, adding to the CW16’s efficiency.

The CW16 cab is designed to provide improved visibility for the operator, with a newly designed console and the machine’s standard, rotating operator’s station. An LCD display and push-button controls simplify operation for an all-around comfortable operating environment. A ROPS canopy or sun canopy are available.

Cat says maintenance of the CW16 has been streamlined and the standard 500-hour, engine-oil-service interval reduces both downtime and overall operating costs. The CW16’s large-capacity hydraulic- and engine-cooling systems keep components at optimum temperatures, even in high ambient temperatures, extending service life for such critical components as hydraulic pumps and motors.
