Reliability, enhanced safety and easy maintenance are all a priority in Caterpillar’s new range of mulchers, available for tracked and wheeled excavators and forest machines.

Two new Caterpillar mulcher attachments are set to arrive Down Under later this year, with the company saying their easily-maintained design will help them deliver consistent and reliable performance.
Both the Cat HM3013 and HM5515 models will be available for order in the third quarter of this year and will arrive in the fourth quarter, Cat told Earthmovers & Excavators.
Cat says the release of the mulchers means it can now offer an attachment for the entirety of its front-reach machine range, from 10 to 32.7 tonnes, and its long-reach front machine range, from 36.3 to 47.2 tonnes.
Designed with a dedicated bite limiter drum, the HM3013 mulcher has an aggressive blade edge with limiter and counter knives, helping it excel in mulching applications where rocks are minimal.
The unit replaces the HM2615 bite limiter mulcher, Cat says, which has a recommended maximum carrier weight of 16 tonnes – four tonnes less than the new model.
The standard drum HM5515 has a maximum carrier weight of 36 tonnes and weighs just over two tonnes, with Cat saying it will suit its 330 and 336 (CB, DB) Hex excavators.
Both new models have variable torque hydraulic piston motors that can shift between high speed, low torque and low speed, high torque as required by the operator.
Hardened counter blades mounted inside the housing aid in the breaking down of the finished material which can increase the rate of composting.
The mulchers’ adjustable hydraulic mulching door gives operators more control over the material through, making for an overall safer operation, especially on roadside clearing applications or close to powerlines.
Bolt-on replaceable skids also keep the mulchers front digging into the ground or into materials which may increase wear.
The new 5515 mulcher from Cat features a standard drum.
