Caterpillar showcased its latest range of wheel loaders and articulated trucks at a special national event in WA recently.
Hosted by local Cat dealer WesTrac, the event featured Caterpillar’s new XE range, including the Cat 988K XE and 972M XE wheel loaders.
WesTrac product manager Mark Turkington said the XE range was built on the proven popularity and performance of predecessor models.
“The 988K XE features an electric drive power train, leading to far better fuel economy and smoother operation,” Turkington says.
“Operators who’ve spent any time in the new model say they end the day a lot less fatigued because of the more comfortable ride.
The Cat 972M XE features a continuous variable transmission that results in smooth shifts, fast acceleration, and speed on grade, he adds.
Other recent additions to the Cat construction equipment line-up include the 140-tonne 6015B hydraulic excavator and the new D6 dozer.
Turkington says that while the range was primarily designed for the construction sector, the smaller machines have proven highly popular with Australian mining operators.
“These rigid and articulated machines are particularly efficient and effective in smaller pits with steeper grades due to their maneuverability,” he says.
“They also provide exceptional environmental performance with improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.”
