The Queensland government has announced that a Productivity Commission will review productivity in the building and construction sector
The Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Limited (CCF QLD) has announced that it supports the passage of the Queensland Productivity Commission Bill through Parliament, which it says is a significant step towards improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens across the state.
CCF QLD says that a strong and independent Productivity Commission will play a critical role in identifying barriers to economic growth and delivering practical solutions that enhance Queensland’s competitiveness. The commitment to reviewing the building and construction industry as a priority is a necessary and positive step, ensuring the sector remains sustainable, efficient, and well-positioned to support the state’s long-term infrastructure needs.

The civil construction industry is a key driver of Queensland’s economy, providing jobs, business opportunities and essential infrastructure. Addressing productivity constraints, including regulatory inefficiencies and rising project costs, will be vital in ensuring the industry can continue to deliver for Queenslanders, it adds.
CCF QLD looks forward to engaging with the Queensland Productivity Commission as it undertakes this review and will work closely with industry stakeholders to provide constructive input. By identifying and implementing evidence-based policy recommendations, the Commission has the potential to unlock economic opportunities, drive investment and enhance the delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the state.
