CONEXPO 2014 attendance second-highest in history

International construction trade show CONEXPO-CON/AGG and co-locating fluid power technology expo IFPE has recorded almost 130,000 combined visitor numbers over five days, achieving the second-highest attendance in CONEXPO’s history since its debut in 1909.

The shows, held at the Las Vegas (USA) Convention Centre from March 4 to 8, also set records for exhibit space, number of exhibitors and education tickets sold.

CONEXPO-CON/AGG show director Megan Tanel says the enthusiasm and traffic on the show floor was incredible.

“Exhibitors cited the high quality of attendees; they told us these were serious buyers and reported robust sales to existing as well as new customers that exceeded their expectations,” she says.

Over 1000 new products and services were on display at the expos, including Liugong’s new 375B skid steer and Wacker Neuson’s new line of loaders, excavators and compactors.

International registrations also increased nine per cent from the previous show in 2011 to more than 31,000 this year.

Of the total number of visitors, more than 75 per cent were in managerial roles, holding top titles such as president, owner, vice president, general manager etc.

In addition to visitor numbers, exhibit space and number of exhibitors also soared from the past event. CONEXPO-CON/AGG recorded more than 2.35 million net square feet of exhibit space with over 2000 exhibitors while IFPE covered more than 161,000 net square feet exhibit space and 400 exhibitors.

A record 41,000 education ticket sales were sold to the shows’ education programs.

IFPE show director Melissa Magestro says the great response to this year’s show reflected the feeling of momentum building in the industry.

“We are industry-run shows with industry needs put first; these show numbers are a testament to the value attendees, exhibitors and other stakeholders derive from their participation,” she says.

This year’s CONEXPO-CON/AGG show has a few new features including a new Demolition & Recycling exhibit pavilion and a new Innovation Awards program to recognise product innovation in the industry.
