Event: Hunter Coal Festival 2015
The inaugural Hunter Coal Festival, to be held in New South Wales in March 2015, is “an event designed to bring the community and the coal industry together in celebration of the mining sector's contribution to the region's success and prosperity”, organisers say.
Developed by the Singleton Business Chamber, with support from Singleton Council, Muswellbrook Shire Council and Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the two-week festival from March 12-29 will be held across Singleton, Muswellbrook and surrounding regions.
Events will include the inaugural Hunter Mining Show, a street parade, gala concerts, sporting events, school debates, information sessions and workshops, and an industry racing carnival at Muswellbrook Race Club.
The Hunter Mining Show is a three-day mining industry exhibition to be held in and around Singleton Council’s Civic Centre from March 12-14. It aims to provide an opportunity for equipment suppliers, service providers and miners to meet, network and do business as part of the region’s mining community.
Organisers say the Hunter Valley is a world-leading coal mining region, exporting over 142 million tonnes of coal through the Port of Newcastle in 2012/13.
The Hunter mining industry contributes over $6 billion a year to the NSW economy, while the total NSW mining industry contributes nearly $13 billion annually to the state’s economy. It is the major employer in the Valley, employing over 12,000 people.
