Vac Dig manufactures hydro-vacuum excavation units primarily used by utilities and telecommunications companies, but suitable for any job that requires precision excavation.

Hydro excavation is also sometimes known as ‘non-destructive digging’ as precise holes can be created while keeping the surrounding area intact.

Recently, Vac Dig delivered its first 3,000-litre hydro-vacuum unit powered by a 93kW John Deere PowerTech 4045T diesel engine to a customer.

“This machine is fitted with the John Deere PowerTech 4045T diesel engine rated at 93kW (125hp) ,” Vac Dig’s Luke Farrell says. “It’s a 4 cylinder 4.5-litre turbocharged engine rated for heavy duty.

“The John Deere engines have a good reputation and our new hydro-vac customer already runs other John Deere-powered equipment so he knows their true value and he’s already familiar with the engine systems, parts and support.”

Farrell says Vac Dig has been impressed with how smoothly the 4045T runs and with the number of extra features the diesel engine has.

“We’ve already noticed the JD 4045T runs quieter and smoother than other engines, and its compact dimensions are ideal for our truck-mounted machines,” Farrell says.

“We’ve also noted some extra features in the 4045T like a dynamically balanced crankshaft, the option of engine balancer shafts, forged steel connecting rods with bigger bearings, replaceable wet cylinder liners and Poly-V fan drive belts.

“Front and side mounting points really help our installation flexibility and even the dipstick and oil filter can be optionally located for service from either side of the engine,” Farrell adds.

“At Vac Dig we utilise the latest technologies, engineering, methods, materials and components. We’re proud of every job we see go out the door.”
