Klose’s Supermarkets operates four stores in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills region. Klose CEO Robert Grubb says the group recently acquired two G140QS and two G200QS generators from JCB to replace backup power units in each of its stores.

“Maintaining power throughout a blackout is crucial,” Grubb says.

“Power outages can be extremely costly in a number of areas – loss of sales, loss of stock and an increase in wage costs when dealing with the consequences of blackouts both during and afterwards.”

“When you have experienced several extremely long blackouts you actually become more aware of the numerous costly consequences there can be which can be eliminated if you have a continuous standby power solution available.”

“We have had three power outages at Woodside in the past two or three weeks. The generator powered everything in the store including the refrigeration. It all worked as it should,” Grubb adds.

The JCB G140QS generator is powered by a 117kW JCB 4-cylinder engine and provides up to 140kVA of standby power, while its larger sibling the G200QS runs on 172kW 6-cylinder JCB and can push out up to 198kVA.

The generators are also fitted with Mecce Alte alternators, and JCB says both models offer low fuel consumption, increased efficiency and low noise.

The QS range of generators has also been designed to withstand some of the more oppressive working conditions encountered in Australia, able to operate in temperatures over 50 degrees Celcius. The generator units have also been dipped in phosphate for increased durability.

The QS generators are also connected to JCB’s LiveLink service, which allows users to monitor the equipment in real-time via PC, tablet or smartphone.

“We like that we can monitor them online,” Grubb says. “We view the site regularly to check the status of each machine.”
