UK-based Hill Engineering’s Tefra Tilt coupler is a tilt rotator, allowing attachments on an excavator or backhoe to be rotated up to 180 degrees.

Where the Tefra Tilt differs from its competitors is its standard pin grabbing system which makes any attachment compatible with the unit, rather than being attachment-specific.

Hill Engineering sales and marketing manager Oliver Phelan says the attachment is highly versatile

"The product itself has really taken off," he says. "We are selling more and more as the months go by. We have seen a 60 per cent growth in sales of the Tilt over the last year and it’s still growing."

The Tefra Tilt is based on Hill Engineering’s own Tefra quick-coupler, using it as the base before adding a tilt motor from German manufacturer HKS to achieve the 180-degree movement function. The unit is suitable for excavators from 3-20 tonnes.

Machinery hire group GBSS Civil and Plant Hire recently specified a Hill Tefra Tilt for a JCB JS160W wheeled loader it bought. The group says it was the streamlined nature of the Tefra Tilt that caught its attention.

"We decided on the Hill Tefra Tilt as competitors’ hitches had too many parts, and on the hydraulic tilting buckets there are too many rams which fail – whereas the Tefra Tilt has an actuating motor arrangement and no wearing parts, so it’s practically maintenance free," GBSS managing director George Burn says.

"It also has a heavier motor on it.  We would definitely order a Tefra tilt again if the application demanded it."
