Product Focus: GMT Grapple Saw

The Total Tree Control system distributed in Australia by The Forest Centre allows operators to remove trees in sections by freezing tilting

GMT has released a new system called Total Tree Control that provides greater flexibility for removing tree sections

The Forest Centre’s product stable of attachments has steadily grown from its origins in dedicated forest harvesting and haulage equipment, today covering a huge range of working tasks and machine sizes for contractors both in and out of the forest.

For those working in urban areas or along roadsides and waterways, for example, attachments from TMK Tree Shear and GMT Equipment felling grapples bring cutting capacity to nearly any standard excavator that may have already been utilised for other tasks on the work site, such as loading or sorting timber material.

“GMT Equipment has launched a new product that we’re particularly excited about,” explains Forest Centre sales manager Rey Kell.

“It combines the ease of operation afforded by a dangle type rotating grapple saw with patented technology that will also allow the operator to freeze the tilting motion of the grapple after a tree section has been cut by the built-in hydraulic chainsaw unit. It is truly unique in its capacity, as both a fixed and flexible grapple saw.”

GMT’s new system, called Total Tree Control, will allow a limb or trunk section to be cut and withdrawn from the work area in the same orientation, while the ‘brakes’ can be released by the operator at the touch of a button for steady tilting downward once positioned more safely.

Other carriers such as telehandlers and truck cranes can also use the GMT grapple saws.
