Get ready for Euro Auctions’ next Australian earthmoving equipment auction taking place May 2

Euro Auctions, Australia – the largest independent construction machinery auctioneers in the world –are firmly established in Brisbane.

Whilst Euro Auctions Brisbane may be seen as an Australian company, what many may not know is that it is one of the largest independent auction specialists for construction equipment, comercial vehicles and agricultuiral machinery in the world.

Since November 2012, Euro Auctions has continued its global expansion by establising an auction site in Brisbane. Through this base in Australia, it is now capitalising on the strategic buoyancy of the Pacific Rim economies.

Furthermore, with the increased demand for equipment, plant and machinery from Australia and surrounding regions, Euro Auctions customers in the UK and Europe were demanding better links between Europe and the Australasian market, strengthening the need for an auction sales base in the southern hemisphere.

Now firmly established in Brisbane, customers may like to know the strength and reach of the Euro Auctions group of companies.

Family owned

Euro Auctions is a proud wholly independent family business owned by the five Keys brothers from Northern Ireland. The company was founded over 20 years ago and the Brisbane sales site is part of an extensive business network that is successfully developing across the world.

While the business was subject to a proposed takeover by Ritchie Bros in 2021, this was rejected by the Competition and Markets Authority and the business remains a thriving independent organisation.

With 12 permanent auction sites in eight countries across four continents, this global reach gives Euro Auctions unique buying and selling power, with a global network of consignors and buyers who are active at each of the sales – not just in Australia, but around the globe.

With sites in Northern Ireland, England, Spain, Germany, Australia and the Middle East, plus three sale sites in the USA, trading as the Yoder & Frey brand, and three sites in Canada under the Michener Allen banner, this gives the business global reach, consigning machinery and equipment as well as offering kit for sale to a truly international audience.

When Euro Auctions established its base in Brisbane, the strength of the mining sector in Australia led to strong demand for construction equipment, plant and machinery, which Euro Auctions fullfilled, with part of this overwhelming interest due to the demand Australia was receiving from the Far East for raw materials.

Euro Auctions has a strong international seller and buyer base, with an existing contingent of customers who consign to other Euro Auctions sales and will consign to the new auction facility in Brisbane. In addition, Euro Auctions has a loyal ex-pat following now working in the Australian construction and mining sectors who are familiar with the Euro Auctions brand back in Ireland and the UK, and will create local awareness in the region.

Australia growth

Craig Jarvis joined the Euro Auctions team in Australia as the new sales & operations manager, with the directive to grow the business across Australia, New Zealand and the entire Pacific Rim.

“With a working lifetime in heavy plant, machinery and mining, I joined the Euro Auctions team to expand the company in the southern hemisphere,” he says.

“Having worked with some of the largest operators in the construction quarrying and mining arena. I bring to the table solid experience and relationships to further develop the Euro Auctions brand.

“Having known Euro Auctions since they entered the Australian market in 2012, I have purchased equipment from them for the various organisations I have been working with. With a life in the mining and the quarrying industry, I see great potential to develop the Euro Auctions brand in Australia and the surrounding region, in those sectors, as a supplier of quality machinery and equipment. My focus will be on building the brand in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Japan and the surrounding islands.

“Whilst my experience includes running 70m travel towers for drag-line excavators in Queensland, to operating 5600-6 Hitachi excavators, I have worked at the heavy end of the quarrying and mining sector and will be instrumental in introducing Euro Auctions into that section of the market.

“Now we need to push the Euro Auctions name, targeting the mining operations in the region, brand building, attracting buyers and sellers from the local market as well as around the globe. Gold mining operations in Australia and Papua New Guinea are buoyant and need to rotate their machinery inventory and we are able to assist with these needs. We are identifying new opportunities in the sector and brining new machines to where they are needed.

“Why did I join Euro Auctions? There are number of reasons why I joined the team. Euro Auctions are the world’s ‘number two’ auction house for used and new construction and agricultural machinery. And, unbeknown to many, we are the biggest privately owned auctioneer in the world. I am excited to be part of this global group, that is continuing to expand, finding new markets, and I am excited to be part of that journey.

“We are a global business and we trade used and unused machines around the globe. In 2023 we expanded our sales teams in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Australia, as well as the teams in Yoder & Frey in the USA and Michener Allen in Canada, giving the Euro Auctions group a greater global reach. This ensures that we can market globally, attract the biggest buying audience, providing more coverage. And, strategically, we are attracting industry specialists to the team. Whilst all our sale team are universally conversant with the used machinery market, we are attracting specialists in haulage, commercial vehicles, cranes and lifting, and in agricultural and compact equipment.

“Globally we host over 100-plus auctions each year, selling 150,000 lots to over 115,000 bidders, generating A$1.4 billion in sales. The Euro Auctions flagship sale site in the UK in a three-day auction, where 700-plus vendors from over 30 countries consign lots to this single sale. We have hammer totals of A$194 million and floor bidders on the day contributing around A$55 million, selling in excess of 1,500 excavators, over 1,000 commercial vehicles and over 700 man-lifts at every sale. The flagship sale site in the UK regularly sells between 6,500 and 7,500 machines. Euro Auctions are truly a world class act.”
