Safety footwear company SteelBlue and the Australian Physiotherapy Association have teamed up to make August the Tradies National Health Month in a bid to raise awareness of tradies’ safety and wellbeing.

SteelBlue and APA are urging tradies and trade companies to register their support for the Tradies National Health Month initiative happening in August 2013

Both organisations created this initiative to focus on educating and engaging tradies on the importance of health and safety as they felt there was no dedicated space in the market for tradies’ wellbeing.

Steel Blue General Manager Ross Fitzgerald says the number of injured tradies every day is too high, with 80 per cent of injured workers in Australia being tradies or labourers.

"We have been working closely with the Australian Physiotherapy Association to encourage a behaviour change amongst tradies, to make them more aware about the importance of health and safety, at work and home," he says.

Australian Physiotherapy Association CEO Cris Massis says the organisation is passionate about keeping Australian tradies pain-free, moving well and living to their full potential.

"Steel Blue values the work that tradies do and want to improve their awareness and support in this area," he says.

Throughout the month of August, tradie body health and safety tips will be promoted, with tradies and trade companies encouraged to register their support and become a part of the month.

On registering, tradies will be entered in to a $4000 prize draw to win an outdoor adventure trip whether it be fishing, surfing or camping.

"Watch out for events happening nationally throughout the month of August for Tradies National Health Month," Fitzgerald adds.

"Encourage your work mates to register, join in, stay healthy and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up-to-date on what’s happening."
