Kobelco’s QLD distributor moves into flash new digs

Improvements in delivery times, productivity and safety are behind the move by Chesterfield Australia — Kobelco’s longest serving dealer — into a new, purpose-designed facility in the south-west Brisbane suburb of Richlands.

With 12,000 square meters of land, 2,000 square metres of dedicated covered workshop space, and 10 equipment bays, the new flagship facility increases both service and storage capacity.

“We’ve used some innovative design and layout approaches to maximise usable space in the new premise, which greatly increases our capacity,” Chesterfield Australia Sales Manager Michael Royle says.  “The layout of the workshop achieves a better flow of work and means work moves through the workshop faster, and there is a safer working environment for our workers.

“There are 10 equipment bays as well as a paint booth, wash bay and increased parts storage. With the improved facilities, we have shortened the lead time between a sale being made and the machine being ready for delivery to a customer.

“There is access to all 10 bays if a customer wants to inspect a machine prior to delivery or while it is being worked on, and [with] a separate heavy-vehicle-only access, our customers and staff can access the building with greater safety.”

Royle says the increased space also means the dealership can carry more equipment on hand and allow customers to view the full Kobelco range from mini excavators upwards.

Chesterfield Australia is a family business established in 1963, and now has 15 branches in Queensland and central New South Wales.
