Westco Trucks to sell Kobelco excavators
Westco Trucks has taken on a Kobelco excavator franchise in four of its Queensland branches, saying the move made sense once it realised most of its trucking customers also ran earthmoving equipment.
The range will be carried in four Westco Trucks branches in the large central and north Queensland regions, Westco North Queensland general manager Bernie Trevallion says, adding that this partnership fills a real need for customers of the family owned business that has been in operation for more than 70 years.
"In the day-to-day dealings with our trucking customers we found that the vast majority of them were also operating earthmoving machinery," he says. "This gave us a good opportunity to service our customers in another way so we felt the timing was right to start dealing in earthmoving equipment as well.
"When we looked at the manufacturers in the market we looked for a brand that had a reputation for high quality and was a business that was big enough to be well supported on the service side but still be able to build a good business relationship with us.
"Our customers come from every imaginable part of the industry, from road building and residential development through to landscaping," Trevallion says. "Most are owner-operators who are time poor so to be able to bring their business asset needs together in one spot saves them time and, in many cases, money."
Kobelco sales and service general manager Doug McQuinn says that Kobelco was looking at expanding its dealer network and was looking to partner with "a reputable dealer that shares our values of exceptional customer service and passion for our industry".
The entire range of Kobelco excavators will be available through the dealership, from the 1-tonne SK008 to the 50-tonne SK500LC-9.
Westco Trucks, which is part of the Great Western Corporation, has specialised earthmover service technicians in each of the branches, and is working with Kobelco to keep staff trained and updated.
