Liebherr’s modular maintenance program recently delivered the 50th and 51st power pack modules since the program began in 2015.

The Liebherr modular maintenance program operates out of Perth and supplies modular components for the R 996 B and R 9400 mining excavators.

The program has grown steadily since 2015 and now supplies several modular components including power pack 1, power pack 2, hydraulic tank, service trap and valve bank for the R 996 B as well as the power pack and hydraulic tank for the R 9400.

Liebherr’s modular engine design means parts in need of maintenance can be swapped with freshly serviced components straight away. The machine can then go straight back into service instead of waiting for repairs.

Liebherr says the modular program has been warmly embraced by customers mainly due to the short turn-around times and increased uptime of their machines. This set-up also significantly boosts the customer’s bottom line.

While initially introduced in Western Australia, the program has spread nationwide with the help of Liebherr’s Mount Thorley branch in NSW’s Hunter Valley coal mining region. Liebherr says it is now getting modular enquiries from both west and east coasts.

To cope with demand, the Perth branch has recently added more modular sets to its inventory. At any one time, there is a rotation of seven power pack modules, two hydraulic tanks and service traps and a valve bank at the Perth workshop.

Liebherr says it is pleased with the modular maintenance program’s success and hopes to expand the range of available components in the future.
