Leading Australian Caterpillar dealer WesTrac will be better placed to serve its customers and to grow its business after moving to larger, new premises in Sydney’s south west.

Back in 1996, the Parramatta site became a Caterpillar Inc. dealership branch. Since then, the facility and its people have provided 22 years of service to Caterpillar customers, 5,500 days of operations, delivered more than 6,000 new Cat machines and processed over 2.5 million parts orders.

WesTrac opened the doors of the new 24,000-square-metre site in Casula on July 16. Situated at the intersection of the M5 and M7, the new facility is closer to a number of significant current and future infrastructure projects, as well as the homes and businesses of many WesTrac customers.

"WesTrac has long understood that the key to our own success lies in helping our customers to become more efficient, more productive and more profitable," WesTrac NSW and ACT chief executive Greg Graham says. "The new base for our Sydney operations is located at the centre of the city’s growth corridor and is easily accessible via major arterial roads."

"It’s closer to where our customers are based and where they do business which means less time on the road and more time on site being productive."

As part of the relocation of operations from Holroyd to Casula, WesTrac has taken the opportunity to streamline and enhance the customer experience.

"The warehouse at Crossroads is 1500 square metres larger and we are expanding the inventory," Graham says. "Thanks to the adoption of automation and inventory management systems, we will be able to get customers the parts they want quicker. This is all supported by a layout that gets trucks and other vehicles in and out of the complex faster."

The new site has an efficient drive-through parts bay catering for sectors including heavy construction, building construction, commercial engines, paving and highway trucks. Specialised service areas include capabilities for component rebuilds and painting.

Graham says the choice to locate the new branch in Casula followed extensive market and customer research. A report by forecasting consultancy Macromonitor earlier this year found investment in major infrastructure projects across Australia is set to soar over the coming five years with projects in Sydney and NSW making a hefty contribution.

WestConnex, the Sydney Metro City and South-West projects, Western Sydney road projects, and Sydney Light Rail are all expected to contribute to a national spend of $16 billion a year by 2020, with the figure much higher when smaller infrastructure projects are taken into account.

New facility includes:

  • 300sq m product demo area
  • Drive-through parts bay
  • Specialised service areas for rebuilds, paint shop and spec shop
