Global giant plans greater push into surface preparation business

Husqvarna to acquire Blastrac
Blastrac specialises in surface preparation technologies

Husqvarna has acquired surface preparation technologies manufacturer Blastrac for an undisclosed sum, as it further expands into complementary surface preparation solutions.

Blastrac develops solutions for shot blasting, scarifying, scraping, grinding, polishing and dust collection, with manufacturing and sales bases in North America, Europe and Asia.

While it did not disclose a figure, Husqvarna noted that Blastrac’s net sales during last 12 months amounted to approximately SEK 600m (A$92.8 million).

Husqvarna construction division president Karin Falk says the Blastrac team will bring extensive product and market expertise with them.

"Blastrac's business fits well into our growth strategy and will enable us to expand to our existing and new customers," she says.

In a letter to customers, Blastrac Global president Brian Mackenzie notes Husqvarna had previously bought HTC and Pullman Ermator, adding to the scale of its investment in surface preparation.

"Shot blasting, scrapers, and scarifying are new technologies to Husqvarna. Blastrac and Diamatic brands will complement and enhance the Husqvarna diamond grinding and polishing product lines," he says.

"We are excited to marry our business to a strong and long-term industry player," he continued.

"In these uncertain times, size and financial strength will be important to our employees and customers alike."
