Road projects were the big winners at the Civil Contractors Federation Western Australia Earth Awards
Enviro Infrastructure claimed two of the Civil Contractors Federation Western Australia Earth awards, while two Perth roads and two water-based regional projects took out the other honours.
Enviro Infrastructure’s awards were for the Whitfords Nodes Fitness Staircase and Bridge 34 structural refurbishment and widening and took out the ‘up to $2 million’ and $2-5 million project value categories respectively.
The biggest project recognised was the Murdoch Drive Connection in Perth’s southern suburbs, completed by Metropolitan Road Improvement Alliance in the ‘greater than $75 million’ category.
A joint venture between Main Roads Western Australia, CPB Contractors, Georgiou Group, WA Limestone, GHD, BG&E and AECOM, the project links Murdoch Drive with the Roe Highway and Kwinana Freeway and involved placing 48.5m-long bridge beams over the freeway.
The other road project recognised was WBHO SRG joint venture’s work on the Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road interchange in Perth’s north.
In regional Western Australia, the Vasse diversion drain upgrade completed by the Vasse Joint Venture comprising Westforce Construction and JWI Contracting won the $10-30 million category, while Maritime Constructions and Shire of Esperance’s work on the Esperance replacement jetty in the state’s south won the $5-10 million category.
CCF Western Australia CEO Andy Graham says all winners at the Earth awards, which were held on October 1, deserve praise for their work across a diverse industry.
“It’s a busy time for our industry and resources are scarce, so we’re very grateful to all finalists for taking the time to support the Earth Awards and demonstrate their commitment to excellence in civil infrastructure,” he says.
“With the State Government’s massive transport infrastructure program dominating our sector’s pipeline of work, it was only fitting that three of the six category winners were road projects.
“Two category winners were local government projects, highlighting the importance of local government works to our members.
“The other category winner was a project delivered for Water Corporation, another important client to the local civil construction industry.”
