Strong lineup wins at Tasmanian CCF awards

Six Tasmanian projects were recognised at the Civil Contractors Federation awards from a pool of entries described as the strongest ever.

The VEC Civil Engineering and Shaw Contracting joint venture won the ‘greater than $75 million’ project value category

CCF Tasmania CEO Rachael Matheson says the projects honoured at the state’s CCF Earth awards on August 4 have helped to rebuild Tasmania following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The civil construction sector is the absolute backbone of the Tasmanian community and economy,” she said.

“Most of the public infrastructure that Tasmanians rely on everyday has been built by one of our members and is a testament to their skill, expertise and commitment to the community.

“Each nomination is not only judged on the end result or how the project looks. A range of factors are taken into account such as innovation, safety, people development and training as well as environmental consideration.

“These awards are an opportunity to recognise and reward the outstanding work of our members, as well as come together to celebrate the work of our industry more broadly.”

Scott Walker, Michael Hall, Chris Hall and Shane Fisher from $10-30 million project winner Hall Earthmoving

The big-ticket winner was the VEC Civil Engineering and Shaw Contracting joint venture, claiming the ‘greater than $75 million’ project category for their work on the Midland Highway section of the Perth Link Road near Launceston.

VEC Civil Engineering also won the $5-10 million project value category for the Murchison Dam safety upgrade.

Another big project to win was the Cattle Hill Wind Farm, completed by Hazell Bros Group and fitting into the $30-75 million project value category.

Hall Earthmoving, Shaw Contracting and a collaboration between BridgePro Engineering and TasPorts Corporation were the other companies honoured.

CCF Tasmania also handed out six individual awards, including owner-operator of the year to Scott Walker from DR Jacobson and SR Walker.
