JCB celebrates 70 years with limited edition backhoe

As part of JCB’s 70th anniversary celebrations, local distributor JCB Construction Equipment Australia (JCB CEA) will be giving five lucky Australian customers the chance to purchase a special limited edition JCB backhoe loader painted in nostalgic red, yellow and white livery.

The paintjobs on the anniversary models are a throwback to the retro JCB colour scheme that hasn’t been seen for over 40 years, when it was replaced by JCB’s modern black and yellow scheme. The limited edition models will have red buckets and wheel rims as well as a full white cab. The loaders also come with a commemorative merchandise collection.

There will be one anniversary edition backhoe loader available in each of the five capital city branches in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Customers are encouraged to enquire at their local branch in order to secure the machine.

But the backhoes are not just there for good looks. The limited edition machine is based on the popular JCB 3CX Elite model, and the sturdy backhoe has a bucket capacity of 1.2m3 and a maximum dig depth of 5.46m. Under the hood is an electronically fuel-injected JCB EcoMax Tier 4-compliant engine capable of producing 74.kW of power. The EcoMax system keeps emissions and fuel consumption down and removes the need for a cumbersome diesel particulate filter.

The cab has been inspired by the automotive industry and features a heated air suspension seat, a heated front screen and even a coffee machine. The operator has full 360° visibility through tinted windows and ergonomic seat-mounted controls allow users to manoeuvre the machine with only their fingertips.

JCB manufactured its first backhoe in 1953 and since then has sold over one million machines in 120 different countries.

“The backhoe loader is what cemented JCB in the machinery industry, and we are looking forward to celebrating 70 years of innovation with the arrival of the truly unique anniversary machines” says Glenn McLeod, JCB CEA’s national product manager.

The commemorative merchandise pack contains a JCB polo shirt, red JCB overalls, miniature plinth-mounted models of the JCB 3C MKIII and 3CX, a JCB carpet floor mat, a JCB tool bag, key ring and much more including a framed memento photo of the machine handover.
