JCB JS240LC excavator answer to contractor’s safety fears

For mountain contractor Herman Brunink, safety is always a prime concern.

Brunink, Director of Beauparc-Alpine Earthmoving Pty Ltd, works on infrastructure projects during the summer at Mount Hotham which means he is constantly dealing with the dangers of steep and sloping environments.

Brunink started Beauparc-Alpine Earthmoving Pty Ltd nearly 20 years ago. He saw the opportunity to start his business on Mt Hotham during his 12 years of operating specialist snow-grooming machines during winter ski seasons.

To ensure his safety whilst working, Brunink chose a new JCB JS240LC excavator because of the breadth of factory-fitted safety features.

The JS240LC is JCB’s 24-tonne model in the heavy-tracked excavator range. JCB says it is engineered for strength, productivity and efficiency.

“The JS240LC has a compact body and heavy duty truck base, which gives it a lower centre and gravity,” Brunink says.

“Its heavier construction and innovative design are what caught my attention.”

The high-strength undercarriage has a fully welded X-frame for long-term reliability, even in the most demanding applications. The rigid upper frame provides maximum durability and support for the external ROPS frame.

“I especially like the external ROPS frame over the ROPS cabin. I upgraded to the JCB because the machine is purpose-designed for this safety feature,” he says.

“That’s an important feature for me when I have to work on the slopes. The rugged design and safety features of the JCB give me the confidence to continue working in this environment safely.”
