Leading construction equipment brand JCB is set to re-introduce what they claim to be the world’s smallest backhoe at the upcoming Australian Construction Equipment (ACE) Expo in Victoria.
JCB says the 1CX backhoe is a versatile and compact machine that can handle various tasks from digging trenches to grading roadways as well as general plumbing and building works.
The company claims the machine is the only one in its class capable of performing tasks normally handled by two machines – a skid steer loader and a mini excavator.
JCB Construction Equipment Australia’s National Backhoe Manager Glenn McLeod says the development of the backhoe fills a big gap in the market.
“We knew there were operators out there looking for a machine with the functionality of both a mini excavator and a skid steer loader that didn’t necessarily have the funds or the transport capability to purchase two machines,” he says.
“The 50 hp (37.3 kW) 1CX backhoe bridges the gap, providing outstanding cost savings right from the point of purchase through to ongoing maintenance as operators only need to purchase and service the one versatile machine.”
JCB adds that the 1CX is built to work in tight spaces while performing a multitude of tasks with its 360 degree turn axis.
It also comes with full hydrostatic in-seat multifunctional joystick controls that allow forward and reverse operations, depending on the job at hand.
“A wide range of attachments are available which avoids the need to swap between machines if the task changes from loading to excavation,” McLeod says.
Attachment options include a six-in-one shovel for digging, loading and backfill tasks and an extending dipper with a dig depth of 3.05m and a 3.91 m ground level reach.
“For operators performing hammer or earth drilling tasks, as standard a hammer/bi-directional circuit is fitted to the machine,” McLeod says.
“Operators can also use the backhoe loader as a power source for a wide range of hand-held tools including breakers, water pumps or disc cutters.”
McLeod adds that the various attachments can be fitted to either the front or rear of the machine therefore allowing operators to perform varied tasks in tight spaces.
“For example, you can move the auger drive unit, which would normally be operated from the front of a skid steer loader, and hang it off the backhoe when working in restricted areas,” he says.
According to McLeod, safety is another standout feature of the 1CX backhoe, with a full cab or canopy option available.
“Inside the cab itself, the visibility is outstanding with the steep nose bonnet providing good front-end views of the attachments,” he says.
The ACE Expo Victoria will be held from 21 to 23 February 2013 at Sandown Racecourse, Melbourne. JCB urges those interested in finding out more about the relaunched 1CX backhoe to visit JCB’s stand (B15) at the expo or to contact their local JCB dealer directly.
