An Anaconda scalping screen from Onetrak was key to boosting KB Civil’s productivity on the Sunshine Coast, marking the beginning of a strong relationship
The first thing that KB Civil owner Kerrin Botica says when asked about Onetrak and the Anaconda screen he hired is: “Onetrak thinks about the little blokes too.”
“Onetrak will come out and meet you on site and make sure everything’s okay, speeding up processes and repairs,” he adds.
“Chris, the head of Onetrak’s service department in Caboolture, is worth his weight in gold.”
A family business that’s been running in Sunshine Coast for 20-plus years, KB Civil operates across a mix of applications from crushing and screening to housing developments. Working alongside major wholesalers like Boral and Holcim, the business also undertakes a range of domestic work and larger governmental projects.
KB, whose father is a civil contractor, describes himself as having “grown up in the sand pit and the toys just got bigger”. He initially turned to Onetrak nine months ago to find a solution to an underperforming site.
KB Civil was screening topsoil to remove the vegetation, conditioning it and compacting it back down for a development, but the delays were mounting.
“We had a screen from another brand that didn’t work out,” KB says.
“It was too small for the application and productivity was nowhere near where we had to be. That’s when we turned to Onetrak, who suggested an Anaconda screen. That allowed us to pick up the pace and wrap that project up – it increased our output by about 300 per cent.”
Industry knowledge
Onetrak, the Australian distributor for a range of earthmoving, forestry, crushing and screening and waste and recycling equipment, including Anaconda, Tigercat and Hidromek, has recently expanded its rental offering into crushing and screening equipment.
The Onetrak team at KB’s local branch in Caboolture talked through the conditions and production requirements of the site and suggested the Anaconda DF514 screen.
A mobile scalping reclaimer, the Anaconda DF514 has a maximum feed side of 300mm, hopper size of 7.2 cubic metres and a capacity of up to 350 tonnes per hour. Powered by a 100hp (75kW) Cat engine, the DF514 is best suited to road waste, rock, road subbase, demolition waste, overburden and aggregates.
After its success screening topsoil, KB Civil decided to keep the DF514 on. It is now operating on a different site, screening crushed concrete into recycled road base for a government road upgrade project. KB says having the Anaconda screen has been a valuable addition to his business, which has allowed them to undertake more niche work like the production of recycled road base.

“We’re doing this work for the government to allow them to meet a range of environmental and sustainability criteria in this project,” he says.
“We’re processing old, clean concrete – so no steel or plastic in it – where we crush and screen it for the government to use in its road upgrade as a recycled product.
“On a typical day we manage around 1,200 tonnes; up to 1,800 on a really good day if it’s bone dry with no rain, and everything aligns.”
The screen itself has been simple to use, KB says, and has the capacity that they have been looking for. He also points out the remote operation option as being a bonus for his staff.
“Anaconda’s put a lot of thought into the design of the screen, and you get bang for your buck; they are a good asset,” he says.
High level support
KB says his experience working with Onetrak has been exemplary, pointing out the care and attention that his business has received.
In contrast to other companies who offer little more than a price, Botica says the Onetrak team took the time to visit the site, understand the expectations and conditions of the job, suggest an appropriate machine and provide ongoing support to keep KB Civil up and running.
“The staff there take the time to come out and see us, check in to make sure everything’s running smoothly, offer tips and tricks,” he says.
“When we were dealing with bad weather last year, they were there making sure we were okay. They’re very supportive of a small business.”
Onetrak and its crushing and screening offering is continuing to support KB Civil as it looks to expand its fleet in response to potential work in the pipeline.
“We’ve been in talks with regards to some future projects coming up, so we’ll potentially be renting jaws, a cone crusher and stackers,” KB says.
“Onetrak will be working with us closely to make sure we get what we need to get those jobs done well.”
