First Kobelco SK555RX-6 delivers comfort and fuel economy for Tassie operator

Tasmanian earthmoving company Pro-Dig Earthworks is the first recipient of the new Kobelco SK555RX-6 mini excavator in Australia and already, the company is seeing some great return on investment.

The model was released in Australia at the start of 2014.

Pro-Dig Earthworks owner Callum Roberts says the SK55SRX-6’s fuel economy was a key reason for the purchase.

“Lower fuel costs will help reduce our overheads and increase our bottom line even while we’re offering our customers competitive rates,” he says.

With jobs that include commercial civil works, car parks, house footings, plumbing excavators, bulking out houses and digging trenches, Roberts says the company needs a machine that delivers a lot of grunt which he knows the SK55SRX-6 can offer.

The Launceston-based company currently operates across Tasmania and owns 15 pieces of plant and machinery, including seven Kobelco excavators.

Already, the new model is proving very popular with Roberts’ operators.

“It’s great to have this shiny new machine in the fleet, and we’re super excited about it being the first one in Australia,” he says.

“We are really impressed with the specs. The larger cab is a major plus, with bigger windows and plenty of mirrors.”

“It is also set up to provide proper operator comfort, which is critical when your work machines hard, for long periods, in challenging environments.”

Roberts is also happy with the SK55SRX-6’s ability to work a wide range of attachments.

“We run tilt hitches, rock grabs, augers and rock breakers and the SK55SRX-6 handles them all with ease,” he says.

He adds he finds the machine very easy to maintain especially with Kobelco’s iNDr filter feature.

“It makes day-to-day maintenance so much easier and it’s good to know that any air heading into the machine has to pass through this filter.”

Pro-Dig purchased the mini excavator from Tasmania’s Kobelco dealership D&L Morrison.

Roberts says he is very happy with the service received from the dealership.

“If there is ever an issue, the team at D&L Morrison treat it with integrity and professionalism,” he says.

“I’m a big believer in ‘good old fashioned service’ and D&L Morrison really looks after us.”
