Mates in Construction Kokoda fundraiser trek

Join Mates in Construction’s 2024 Kokoda Trek for mental health and suicide prevention August 9–18, 2024

Mates in Construction has announced that it is organising a fundraising trek on the Kokoda Track in August.

Focused on mental health awareness in the construction industry, Mates in Construction says the 96km pilgrimage in Papua New Guinea is an opportunity to honour our past and build a foundation for mental health and suicide prevention in the workplace.

The Kokoda Trek is a testament to endurance, commemorating Australian soldiers’ valour during the Kokoda Campaign of World War II.

“Don’t consider it, do it. It’s an experience of a lifetime that you will not regret,” previous participant Damian Hewat says.

Thommo from the ETU adds: “Knowing that your mates have your back, even in the trek’s toughest parts, makes all the difference.”

With the trek now in its eighth year, national CEO Chris Lockwood says: “Every step taken on the Kokoda Track symbolises progress in shattering mental health stigmas. It’s not only life-changing for participants but also lifesaving for those aided by the funds and awareness it generates. We invite everyone to join this inspiring expedition.”
