During October, Safe Work Australia encourages all Australians to make safety their business
Held every October, National Safe Work Month provides an opportunity for workplaces across Australia to recognise the importance of work health and safety.
This year’s theme is ‘safety is everyone’s business’ and highlights the collective benefit of safe work practices to everyone in the workplace.
“We want workplaces to think about safety as part of the everyday business of their workplace, creating a safe and healthy workplace that is free from physical and psychological harm benefits everyone,” Safe Work Australia CEO Marie Boland says.
“Having a safe and healthy workplace is a fundamental right for all workers, across all occupations and industries.”
The impacts of work-related injuries and fatalities can be far reaching, affecting individuals, families and the broader community.
In 2023, 200 Australian workers were fatally injured at work and 139,000 serious workers’ compensation claims were made.
As part of the National Safe Work Month, Safe Work Australia is calling on business to prioritise work and health and safety by making it a part of the business.
By making safety a priority and taking action to ensure the workplace is free of physical and psychological harm helps to keep workers safe, Safe Work Australia says.
Every worker, across all industries and occupations, deserves to come home safe.
