A $20,000 grant is being made available to support a female-led business looking to effect change in the construction industry
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has announced that applications are now open for its Bright Ideas Grant 2023.
$20,000 seed funding will be awarded to support a woman, group or partnership to launch a new business venture, program or idea related to the construction industry.
The Bright Ideas Grant and associated workshops aim to provide those in the construction industry with the skills and confidence to start a business of their own as well as ongoing support for the winner for the following year.
Last year’s winner, Emma Wallace, was awarded the grant for her idea to write and illustrate a children’s book to inspire and expose primary school children, particularly girls, to the opportunities available in the construction industry.
In 2021, Amy Chapple won the grant for her business Hats Off 4 Change, covering the design, manufacture, supply and recycling of hard hats.
Submissions will be judged on the quality of the business plan, originality, likelihood of success and the ability of the business idea to influence change within the construction industry.
To be eligible, applicants need to be female or have a woman in a key leadership role within the proposed business, and be a NAWIC member as of September 11, 2023.
Applications or nominations will close on Sunday October 22, 2023, with interviews undertaken and the final winner announced in November.
