New Cat 24 motor grader built for improved performance

Caterpillar has introduced the new Cat 24 motor grader

Cat says the 24 motor grader is a high-performance machine built for construction and maintenance of mine roads for medium to large mining operations. The grader features a modular design, with components able to be swapped out quickly, easily and safely.

The 24 is powered by a Tier 4 Final Cat C27 ACERT diesel and can provide a 15 per cent low-end torque boost over the previous model. The grader’s automatic power shift transmission uses Cat’s proprietary Advanced Electronic Control Strategy (APECS) to ensure smooth gear changes and extend component life.

The Cat 24 has received an 11 per cent increase in machine weight over previous models, resulting in a greater blade down pressure and increased traction. This in turn helps to maintain a consistent ground speed, especially when carrying a large load.

As mentioned, the new grader has a modular design that greatly reduces the downtime associated with replacing parts and maintenance intervals for the transmission, hydraulic filter and engine air filter have been doubled.

The grader has received a number of safety enhancements including mini-platforms, walkways, grab handles, non-slip steps, secure handrails and handholds. The Cat 24 also features 15 strategically located tie-off points to protect technicians during service operations.

A number of automated features protect the Cat 24 from operator or maintenance errors including engine underspeed/overspeed monitoring, transmission slip detect, articulation eStop, implement lockout and fluid monitoring. Prior to starting, the machine will also perform a diagnostic of the coolant, engine oil and hydraulic oil levels before giving the operator the OK to start.
