New Cat excavators complete the F series

Caterpillar has revealed four new excavator models – the 313F L, 315F L, 316F L and the 318F L – that will complete its F series of 11- to-90-tonne excavators.

The four new models represent the smaller end of the F series range, with the large and mid-size models released in previous years. Like other models in the F series, the latest releases conform to US Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV emissions standards.

“Large and mid-size Cat F Series models have been working on jobs around the world for more than a year, and customers report that their machines are delivering on the stated design goals, including exceptional fuel efficiency—material moved per unit of fuel,” Caterpillar worldwide product manager for small excavators Brian Abbott says.

The 68.5kW 313F L is the smallest of the new lineup with a maximum operating weight of 15 tonnes. The excavator is powered by a Cat C4.4 ACERT engine that can operate in two power modes, high and economy. It also has a full-size ROPS cab and an ergonomic air-suspension seat.

The 72kW 315F L has been designed as a compact-radius machine intended for work on restricted-space sites such as working close to buildings or road projects with lane closures. Cat advises the 315 F L can dig, swing and dump all within a 3.8m working circle.

The 316F L produces 87kW and is “a nice-size machine for customers who move from job to job every day,” Abbott says. It also comes with a coupler and a range of attachments to handle many different material types from top soil to abrasive rock.

The largest of the new models is the 318F L. Although producing the same 87kW of power as the 316F, Cat says the 318F L is uniquely positioned within the 18-tonne market as the excavator can produce more lift and breakout force than a 16-tonne machine but uses the same amount of fuel.
