A number of new excavators have been launched on the market in recent months. Here’s a round up of some of the new models
Kobelco Australia launches short radius excavator duo
Kobelco recently added two new short radius excavators with Tier 3 engines to its Australian portfolio.
The new SK225SR-7 and SK235SR-7 weigh in at 23.3 tonnes and 25 tonnes respectively, with the benefits of a Tier 3 engine.
Since introducing its first short radius (SR) concept in 1996, Kobelco says it now has the largest SR range in the Australian market – covering machines from 1 tonne to 38 tonnes.
SR machines benefit from a smaller working footprint, Kobelco says, which means they can access tighter working areas and can work in one lane of a freeway.

JCB expands X series range
JCB has expanded its X Series range of crawler excavators with the new 145XR – a second model with reduced tail swing
Building upon the success of the larger 245XR model, JCB’s 145XR reduced tail swing model combines minimal counterweight swing with a compact design.
The 145XR has a 27 per cent shorter counterweight overhang than the conventional 140X, which JCB says makes it ideal for working within freeways or on confined urban sites.

Heavy excavator duo unveiled by HD Hyundai
Hillhead 2024 provided the perfect backdrop for the debut of HD Hyundai’s largest Stage V crawler excavators, with the 80-tonne and 100-tonne machines shown for the first time at the event.
The 80-tonne HX800A L and the 100-tonne HX1000A L crawler excavators have been designed to operate in mines and quarries, as well as for bulk earthmoving for construction and infrastructure project applications, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment recently announced.
Both heavy duty machines are powered by Perkins diesel engines, which the company says delivers class-leading power.
The HX800A L uses the six-cylinder Perkins 2506J, providing 400kW (539hp), while the larger HX1000A L is powered by the Perkins 2806J, offering 460kW (629hp).
Both machines also come with HD Hyundai’s All-Around View Monitoring (AVM) camera system, providing the operator with a 360-degree view around the working area.

Develon introduces 1 tonne mini excavator
Develon recently launched its 1 tonne DX10Z-7 zero tail swing mini excavator, which the company says provides improved performance when compared to the previous DX10Z model it replaces.
Compact and easy to transport, the mini excavator has a width of 730mm when the tracks and front blade are fully retracted – allowing the machine to pass through doors.
A hydraulic expandable undercarriage provides the DX10Z-7 with one of the widest stances for mini excavators, Develon says. When it is extended, the width of the square footprint becomes 1,100mm, providing extra stability.
To make access to job sites even easier, a foldable tip-over protective structure (TOPS) canopy comes as standard on this model.
With an engine output of 7.6kW (10.35hp), the mini excavator also boasts a new 1.45m boom design and increased arm length – from 810 to 890mm.
