New Kobelco SK850LC-10 to arrive in Australia

Kobelco is sharpening its focus on heavy work, with a new 85 tonne excavator set to arrive Down Under

The SK850LC-10 will be Kobelco’s largest excavator in its Australian machinery line-up

Kobelco’s new SK850LC-10 excavator is set to touch down in Australia, with the first units due to arrive within the next two weeks, the manufacturer says.

At 85-tonnes, the SK850LC-10 is the largest excavator in Kobelco’s Australian machinery line-up and has been built to withstand the rigours of tough Australian environments with a durable base and heightened productivity capabilities.

The machine has been available for delivery throughout Australia since March.

Kobelco has already sold over 150 units worldwide of the SK850LC-10 since its release and, following global tests in demanding conditions such as China and India, will be well suited to quarry applications, small to medium mining operations, and large-scale civil infrastructure projects in Australia.

The new SK850LC-10 model is driven by a turbocharged and intercooled 12.9 litre Hino engine, which produces 380kW (509 horsepower), for high performance in heavy-duty applications onsite.

The engine meets current international emissions standards and boasts an average fuel consumption of less than 50 litres per hour.

Fast digging cycle times are also achieved through the SK850LC-10’s powerful bucket breakout force and arm tear out forces, meaning operators can achieve high work volumes.

An intelligent hydraulic system is also included for additional speed and control while its design also reduces energy loss by minimising hydraulic pressure resistance without lessening the machine’s performance.

Kobelco’s new hydraulically driven twin fan engine cooling system is another feature of the SK850LC-10, aimed at improving fuel economy, reducing noise and preventing over-cooling through the use of infrared sensors which reduce the speed of the fans when required.

Kobelco Australia general manager of product and distribution Mark Johnson says the SK850LC-10 will be a welcome addition to the earthmoving industry in Australia, adding that the latest model builds on those that were first introduced in 2006.

“The SK850LC-10 is the largest excavator in our product line-up and comes with a tried and tested reputation from some of the harshest environments around the globe,” he says.

“The new SK850LC-10 builds on the impressive reputation Kobelco is building more recently in heavy excavators with the launch of the XD series in the 35 & 50-tonne classes. This new SK850LC allows us to participate in quarry, small to medium mine sites and large civil infrastructure applications with a machine that is more productive, more durable and ultimately will make our customers more profitable.”

“We look forward to cementing our place as the premier supplier of heavy-duty excavators in the Oceania market,” Johnson says.

In the SK850LC-10, operators can opt between three work modes which are suitable for a range of tacks – H-mode, S-mode, and ECO-mode. The machine is also equipped with bi-directional primary auxiliary hydraulics and hand-controlled tilt-rotate piping and quick hitch piping as standard.

Other features of the SK850LC-10 include a safe and comfortable cab, with all the standard connectivity ports and climate control functions, and a colour LCD multi-display to view important information such as maintenance intervals and fuel consumption.

Kobelco’s K-Assist system is another feature of the SK850LC-10, and is a remote diagnostic troubleshooting system which allows local Kobelco dealers to provide remote support for the machine.

The Kobelco SK850LC-10 will be available at dealers around Australia and New Zealand.
