Equipment focus: PneuVibe compactor plates

An Australian-made PneuVibe compactor plate and post clamp combo attached to a 14-tonne Caterpillar Hy-Rail excavator is making steel post driving a whole lot easier for Western Australia’s Spinifex Crushing and Screening Services.

Tasked with driving steel posts into the ground to shore up railway ballast in Pilbara, Spinifex turned to Total Rockbreaking Solutions (TRS), part of PneuVibe’s Australia-wide dealer network.

TRS recommended a PneuVibe CP201 compaction plate — a 710kg compaction plate which has a centrifugal force of 8,100kg and frequency of 2,300 rpm — paired with a PD1 post clamp for the job.

If required, PneuVibe managing director Ian Burke says, the CP201 could easily be adapted to sheet and rail driving as well.

Pneuvibe has been making excavator mounted plate compactors for over 20 years. The range consists of eight models, all of which “deliver a class-leading frequency and centrifugal force-to-weight ratio”, Burke says.

Features of the compactor plates include a design which reduces wear by ensuring rubber mounts are in compression while in operation, and a priority flow valve which protects the hydraulic motor from excess oil flow from the excavator.

The plates can be mounted on carriers weighing from 1.5 tonnes to 25 tonnes. The optional clamping devices mean the PneuVibe plates can also combine sheet and drive posts from 50mm to 300mm in diameter.
