Porter Powers Into Australian Market

New Zealand’s largest hire company the Porter Group has launched into the Australian market

Specialist heavy machinery company Porter Hire is launching into the Australian market, giving companies in the mining, liquid natural gas and civil engineering sectors a range of options to hire or purchase the high-quality equipment they require.

Porter Hire is part of the Porter Group, which has been a distributor of Hyundai construction equipment through its Hyundai Construction Equipment Australia (HCEA) subsidiary for 10 years. HCEA has branches throughout Australia.

Porter Hire is New Zealand’s largest hire company and has chalked up more than 60 years’ experience. Focused entirely on the earthmoving and heavy plant market, Porter Hire comprises more than 3,000 units operating in New Zealand, southern California and now Australia.

Porter Hire Australia General Manager Nathan Abbott says the company’s move into Australia this year has been a huge success.

“The feedback has been fantastic. We have been working on a number of proposals and it is clear there is a great deal of opportunities in our chosen markets. It’s been very positive,” he says.

In Australia, Porter Hire is focused on the mining, liquefied natural gas and associated civil works, civil construction and infrastructure markets with a range of heavy equipment.

The fleet includes excavators from 1.6 tonnes to 120 tonnes; articulated dump trucks from 25 tonnes to 40 tonnes; 28,000- and 36,000-litre water carts; various sized graders; loaders from 1.5m3 to 5m3; and a wide range of dozers, skid-steer loaders, compactors and compaction rollers.

Abbott has considerable experience in the hire industry in Australia and New Zealand. He says Porter Hire’s new hire fleet will primarily be made up of Hyundai equipment and the company will source machinery as required by its customers.
