Bobcat introduces new E85 mini tail swing compact excavator
According to Bobcat, the E85 from its M-Series range is the largest model in its compact excavator line-up and will replace the E80 excavator.
Bobcat says the 8.8-ton E85 excavator has been redesigned to deliver increased arm and bucket forces, fuel efficiency and industry-leading cycle times.
At an operating weight of 18,960 pounds and an overall width of 91 inches, the machine is powered by a 59.4 horsepower diesel engine that is Tier 4 compliant. The diesel engine features a high-pressure common-rail fuel injection system, diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a diesel particulate filter (DPF).
Bobcat says the new model’s minimal 5.8 inches of tail overhang allows it to work in compact environments and next to buildings or other obstructions.
The excavator also feature a number of operator conveniences including a blade float, multi-function joysticks, color instrumentation panel and an auto-shift drive system.
Bobcat claims the E85’s new load-sensing piston pump and closed center-valve system deliver exceptional metering for smooth control of machine functions.
Its new hydraulic system increased the machine’s breakout force by 18 per cent over previous models and bucket breakout force by five per cent.
The new Auto-Shift travel on the E85 shifts the machine out of high range and back automatically, allowing operators to receive superb travel performance without having to manually downshift. The function increases travel performance on demand, allowing operators to focus on the direction and speed.
The blade float allows faster backfill work.
Fuel efficiency and operator comfort
An Auto-Idle feature on the E85 automatically causes the engine to return to idle if the machine has been inactive for a period of four seconds. The feature helps reduce noise levels and fuel consumption.
Bobcat adds the new track roller design also offers operators r a smoother ride.
Operator comfort is a major factor Bobcat had in mind when it redesigned the E85 excavator.
The boom swing control has been removed from the floor and placed on a thumb switch on the left joystick making it easier to operate and opens up space on the floor for operator’s feet.
New adjustable armrests allow the operator to move the rests to a more comfortable position.
A new multi-language, deluxe color panel resembles instrumentation found on larger earthmoving equipment and provides a quick visual of function machine vitals. The home screen displays fuel level, coolant temperature, day/time, throttle position and engine rpm.
Operators can select auxiliary hydraulic flow modes and rates from the panel. For increased security, an integrated password protection system may be used to help prevent theft.
