Cat rolls out C series articulated dump trucks

Caterpillar’s newest dump truck line-up features new engines providing up to 16 per cent increase in power and a number of new features compared to its previous B series models.

There are three models in the new range – the 725C, 730C and 730C EJ ejector.

Caterpillar says the C series was developed based on customer requests for increased productivity, lower operating costs, long-term durability, added rimpull /retarding capability, ease of operation, high resale value and maximum rental margins.

The 725C has a rated payload capacity of 23.6 tonnes, and the 730C and 730C EJ models are rated at 28 tonnes.

The 725C has a Cat C9.3 ACERT engine which produces 314 net horsepower while the C13 ACERT in the larger models has 367 net horsepower. All three models are available in USA EPA Tier 2/E.U Stage II equivalent, Tier 3/ Stage IIIA equivalent, or Tier 4-Final/Stage IV configurations to meet worldwide emissions standards.

According to Caterpillar, the 725C has a four per cent increase in gross power and a 20 per cent boost on gross torque compared to its predecessor models while the 730C and 730C EJ have nearly 16 per cent more gross power and more than a 30 per cent gross torque improvement.

Some extra features and highlights of the new series, according to Cat, are:

  • Inclusion of a new Caterpillar Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Strategy (APECS) in the power-shift transmission which improves acceleration and provides optimum productivity and control of the truck.
  • New engine-compression brake in the 730C models that provides 60 per cent more retarding power than previous models.
  • New Automatic Traction Control system in the larger models applies the locks automatically and proportionally as ground conditions dictate.
  • New design dump body with high-strength wear-resistant steel features a diverging-flow design that promotes clean dumping and minimise material carry back.
  • Newly designed, multi-adjustable air-suspension seat for the operator and a full-size, forward-facing seat for the passenger.
  • Newly designed headlights/turn indicators (mounted wider on the machine) and high mounted LED width position marker lights to contribute to improved night time working.
  • Redesigned electric hood, raised and lowered via a switch in the cab to provide ample access to routine service points.
  • Integral ROPS/FOPS construction.

The 725C and 730C are also available as bare-chassis models which allows operators to mount any specialty equipment such as water tanks, spray systems, container-transport system etc to the back of the truck.

Both bare-chassis models are available in two wheelbase lengths – standard and long.

Caterpillar says the long configuration allows Cat dealers and OEMS to design application specific derivatives that can accommodate larger equipment systems, provide optimal payload capacity and lower the center of gravity for added stability.
