JCB unveils largest backhoe loader

Following the success of its 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders, JCB has released the 5CX which the company says boasts a bigger bucket and extended dig depth to offer an unprecedented working range.

The new model carries a standard 1.4m3 shovel offering a 6.51m dig depth and 7.1m reach.

JCB Construction Equipment Australia Backhoe Loaders Product Manager Glenn McLeod says the 5CX is ideally suited to councils and contractors who need a highly productive machine to handle the big jobs.

“The new model features the same powerful and efficient driveline as the 4CX, with class-leading efficiency and low running costs, including excellent fuel economy,” he says.

He adds the 5CX features JCB’s 74.2 kW Dieselmax engine that delivers an average fuel saving of up to 16 per cent plus lower emissions and noise levels.

“With high ground clearance and four equal-sized wheels like a wheeled loader, the 5CX can tackle very challenging terrain.”

Also featured on the new model is JCB’s Eco-Road technology which JCB says is designed to provide the highest levels of efficiency and productivity when roading.

“Eco-Road features JCB’s patented Torque-Lock technology, the world’s first lock-up torque converter fitted to a backhoe loader, this combined with the exclusive 6 speed automatic transmission significantly reduces fuel consumption while increasing both road speed to a class leading 50kmh and extending the working area,” McLeod says.

The 5CX also features a closed centre large capacity 165 litre per minute variable flow hydraulic pump with a system pressure of 251 bar for carrying out the bigger tasks and ensuring sufficient power for an array of attachment options.

Operator comfort is also an important feature on the 5CX, which offers a patented in-seat servo controls which JCB says allows the operator ergonomic advantages preventing neck and back strain associated with conventional fixed controls at the rear.

A heated air suspension is standard to rubber mounting and isolation to reduce noise and vibration in the cab.

An LCD panel details machine hours, service information, fuel level and system warnings.

A large glass surface area gives operators 360 degree visibility around the cab.

“We believe the 5CX firmly consolidates the JCB backhoe range as the most diverse in terms of model sizes starting with the baby skid steer 1CX, the 4 wheel steer 2CX, and the world’s most popular backhoes being the 3CX/4CX,” McLeod says.

According to JCB, three models have already been purchased by councils in NSW and Queensland and the company is also expecting strong demand from civil contractors.
