Uniden introduces small, windscreen-mounted UHF CB radio

Uniden has launched the UH8020S UHF CB mobile radio — an ultra-compact, windscreen-mounted unit that can be easily transferred between vehicles or locked up for security when not in use.

It offers easy plug-and-play setup and comes with a windscreen mounting kit and adjustable magnetic antenna.

“The UH8020S is ideal for building, mining and construction workers seeking a reliable and affordable solution for communicating on remote sites or between locations,” Uniden says. “It is particularly useful for those working underground where mobile phone coverage is weak, as well as drivers operating between various vehicles such as utes, forklifts and excavators.

“In addition, its compact and portable design means it can be removed and locked away in secure storage, minimising theft to the vehicle and on construction sites.”

Like the UH8050S before it, the UH8020S uses Uniden’s MasterScan technology to minimise disruptions for continuous communication. It uses Dynamic Switching to search for other radios that share the same CTCSS or DCS tone

“When the radio detects a signal with no code or an incorrect code, it switches to an unused channel when transmitting,” Uniden explains. “By scanning only group channels, radios in the network will be able to detect and receive group transmissions, offering continuous communication without interruption.”

The UH8020S, which has a typical range line of sight of 18km, is built for rugged Australian conditions, being temperature-tested to withstand harsh summers and shock-resistant, even when travelling across rugged terrain.

It has a total of 9600 available channels, including 80 narrowband channels, comes with a five-year platinum warranty, and has a recommended retail price of $279.95.
