All-round performance boost for new Takeuchi TB280FR excavator
The Australian release of Takeuchi’s TB280FR excavator — an 8.6-tonne model with improved power, fuel economy, dig depth and reach — has been announced by distributor Semco.
The company says the machine has the potential to deliver a 10 percent productivity improvement through the use of a Tier IV Final compliant Yanmar 4TNV98CT diesel engine providing 51.6.kW of power.
Fuel savings flow on through the use of an auto engine idle system and a variety of work modes.
The Full Zero Turn excavator has a new counterweight profile designed to substantially increase the flow of air to the engine, and Semco says this is complemented by an enhanced cooling system.
The auxiliary output flow has been substantially increased and is selectable between 148 l/m and 58 l/m for a better match with many machinery attachments. In addition, a factory-fitted twin pump flow (Hyflow) is now standard, Semco says, adding that this is "a feature that will appeal to drilling contractors who appreciate the excavator’s capability to drill very close to its track frames".
Takeuchi now provides its medium length stick as standard equipment, giving a maximum digging depth of 4.9 metres (including the hydraulic hitch). In addition, the ‘float’ function blade is of more robust construction and has longer arms, increasing overall length by around 100mm.
While the TB280FR has a standard operating mass of 8.65 tonnes, Semco says it is closer to 9 tonnes when rigged with a hydraulic hitch and GP bucket, and 9.2 tonnes when fitted with optional steel tracks with rubber pads.
"The new TB280FR retains its unique Full Zero Turn capability," Semco says, "thanks to its patented side shifting boom system [which] enables the machine to work effectively between two walls, excavating at the front and being able to load a truck placed behind the excavator."
The cabin now features integral ROPS & FOPS level II protection, with the addition of a retractable sun shade. Inside, a multifunction colour monitor gives a view of all vital systems such as particulate matter accumulation and the lift/load percentage on the craning safety system.
Other features include: a self-adjusting track tensioning system; triple flanged track rollers; two-way control pattern selector; pilot system accumulator; and auto downshift drive motors.
