Cougar EXL series is a mini loader and excavator in one
A mini machine that performs as both an excavator and a loader — the Cougar EXL25 series — has been released by Gold Coast-based importer and distributor Skid Steers Australia.
Available in wheeled or tracked configuration and a choice of sit-down or stand-up operation, there are four models in the range: the crawler/sit-down EXL25TS; the four-wheel-drive/sit-down EXL25WS; the crawler/stand-up EXL25T; and the four-wheel-drive/stand-up EXL25W.
All models are powered by V-twin cylinder, air-cooled, horizontal-shaft Kohler CH730 engines delivering 25hp (18.6kW). Operating capacity is 350kg when used as a loader and 55kg as an excavator, while the tipping load is 530kg and 82kg respectively.
Bucket capacity is 0.12 cubic metres (loader) and 0.03 cubic metres (excavator) across the range, while operating weights are between 1,380kg and 1,440kg in loader configuration and 1,360kg-1,480kg for the excavator.
The machines all come with an extender arm and two- speed travel, and will slew a full 360 degrees, the same as normal excavators.
Skid Steers Australia general manager Bruce Ford says Cougar released the South-Korean-made EXL25 earthmovers after seeing a huge demand worldwide for its EXL900 series mini loader/excavators.
"Why buy two machines when you can have one that does the work of both?" he asks, adding that it’s very easy to switch between work modes: "When you are working as a mini loader flick a switch and then you are in excavator mode."
Bruce says these earthmovers are perfect for a wide range of applications including plumbing and draining, landscaping and general limited-access excavating.
